Soy Candle Benefits

Soy Candle Benefits

Creating an environment that is safe for family and friends is the biggest benefit of soy wax candles. Why would you want to burn a candle that was harmful to anyone in the room? Ask yourself this question.

Would you bring petroleum into your home and burn it?

If a candle is not soy wax or beeswax, then it is likely paraffin wax. Paraffin wax comes from bi-products of purifying petroleum and other oils. Some companies say that even though paraffin wax comes from petroleum, that it is not harmful due to the process it undergoes to become the way people use it in candles.

Luckily for health conscious people, Stanford University did a study in 2017 that found paraffin wax could lead to both lung cancer and asthma.

This is due to paraffin wax candles giving off toluene and benzene.** This alone should stop anyone from buying those big name candles companies that promote paraffin wax to be completely healthy. The sad part is that even though paraffin wax is cheaper to produce a candle than soy wax, the big time companies charge significantly more for their candles!

At Mason Jar Candles & Co. we only produce 100% soy wax candles. We do not put any UV inhibitors or other types of extra chemicals to our candles.

What is Soy Wax?

When you hear soy, people immediately think of soybeans and that is exactly how our soy wax is produced! Soybeans go through a hydrogenation process where some of the fatty acids in the beans go from unsaturated to saturated fat. Learn the difference between the fats here. (https://www.verywellhealth.com/difference-between-saturated-fats-and-unsaturated-fats-697517) This change increases the melting point of the wax, which allows for the soy wax to solidify at room temperature.

Soy wax candles are produced from soybeans, which are grown directly from the Earth!

Soy Wax Benefits

Soy wax candles have numerous benefits over paraffin wax candles other than that they do not give off cancer-causing carcinogens. The benefits are outlined below:

  • Longer Lasting Candle - Soy wax burns longer than paraffin wax, which gives the user more burn for their buck. The reason soy wax burns longer than paraffin wax is that it burns at a lower temperature, resulting in a longer burn. Soy candles burn on average 30%-40% longer than the same sized paraffin candle.
  • Unlimited Supply - Soy wax comes from soybeans, which are planted every year in the Earth. Paraffin wax comes from petroleum and when all of the petroleum on Earth has been used, we will no longer have paraffin wax! Soybeans are planted every year and our supply of soy wax will only be limited if farmers stop planting the beans. This means that our supply of soy wax is technically unlimited!
  • Earth Friendly - Soy wax comes from soybeans but it does not consume the entire bean. The parts of the soybean that are not used for wax are usually given to farms to feed their livestock. Soy wax promotes the life cycle of nature. A soybean is harvested, some of the beans are used for soy wax and the rest goes back to feeding animals.
  • By burning soy candles you are giving back to the earth.
  • Bio-Degradable -  Soy wax is completely biodegradable. If you have a soy candle and forget to use all of the wax, don’t feel bad scooping the wax out of the jar. Soy wax will degrade back into the earth, the same as other recyclable materials. Our Mason Jar Candles can be cleaned through a dishwasher or by hand and now you have a nice jar to use as you please!
  • Supporting The Economy - Soy wax candles help support the entire US economy. Our soy wax is made from soybeans grown right here in the midwest of the United States. Burning our candles helps promote the economic life cycle of businesses throughout the country. Our jars are bought from a family owned business in Lancaster Pennsylvania. Our fragrance oils are bought from a family run business outside of Atlanta Georgia.

  • Are Soy Candle Benefits Right for Me?

That is a personal question that you need to answer for yourself. If you are a candle person and have not tried soy candles before, we would be honored to be your first soy candle purchase! We would never tell someone not to use other companies products, but we will try to educate people on the most health-conscious decisions they can make in their life. We love our soy candles and think that others agree. As a small family business, we strive ourselves on high-quality products at an affordable cost for anyone.
